Concours at the Palace "het Loo", 2005

Jaap Horst

The Palace "het Loo" car show and concours was for a while the best show in the Netherlands, at one of the former Royal palaces, close to the city of Apeldoorn. And 2005 was one of the best years, with a lot of Bugattis present. In 2019 the event went to a different location, another Palace "Soestdijk", but never reached the same level at that new venue.

Best of Show in 2005 was the Bugatti Type 57 C Cabriolet Gangloff, 1939 of Frans Van Haren (Photo above).

There was a special class for the Bugatti T57(s), with 7 Bugattis in this class.

Second prize here went to Jan Smits and his T57 Ventoux, while best of the Bugattis was the Bugatti T57 Atalante, entered by Kathy Tucker.

2005 was before the introduction of smartphones as we know them today, I took the photographs with my digital camera. However, in those days resolution was limited, thus the original images are only 640 pics wide. The most modern smartphones can go up to or over 10000 now, and digital camera's even more...

Above a whole series of photographs of the Type 57 C Cabriolet Gangloff, 1939 of Frans Van Haren.

Pim Hascher's Type 101 Coupe by Guilloré.

Type 57's, Stelvio and Ventoux.

Type 57 C Cabriolet Gangloff, then owned by Edgar Schermerhorn.

Type 57C factory built Atalante Découvrable (Toit Ouvrant) of Kathy Tucker / Kees Jansen.

Various GP Bugatti's, getting ready for the sprint race.

A Rare sight, Bugatti EB112 prototype.

Runner-up in the Bugatti class on it's way to the prize giving, Jan Smits at the wheel.

Winner of the Bugatti Class, Kees Jansen at the wheel.

Not all cars were Bugatti's, of course. Images of a Triumph Dolomite, very similar to the 2nd car I owned. Though in better shape then mine ever was....

On September 6, 2005 I wrote the following report in the News section of the Bugatti revue, about this event:

Paleis het Loo Concours d´Elegance results

Best of Show was the Bugatti Type 57 C Cabriolet Gangloff, 1939 of Frans Van Haren. Photo from the Villa d´Este concours, which he won beginning of this year.

There was a special class for the Bugatti T57(s), with 7 Bugattis in this class.

Second prize here went to Jan Smits his T57 Ventoux, while best of the Bugattis was the Bugatti T57 Atalante, entered by Kathy Tucker.

There also were sprints organised, in the Saturday sprint Bart Rosman had an accident, nearly overturning his Bugatti T35C. Several parts were bent, and his steering wheel broken.

Number one and two in the Bugatti T57 class.

Another picture of the Atalante, and the broken steering wheel of the T35C.

Some sprint Action: Elizabeth Blokhuis in a T37, and Kjeld Jessen in his T13 Brescia. He gave a very impressive show on the Sunday.
