 Carlo Bugatti detail designs
We all know some examples of the exquisite and special furniture and silverware made by Carlo Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti's father. Much less is known about the exact history and the factories that his furniture was made in, and I'm not going into all this at the moment. What I do want to show you, is some drawings and sketches he made. Some drawings of some piece of furniture as a whole, but many more detail drawings of the special details that were applied to his work. Like on the "Large Sideboard" below. The parchment with which this is covered is decorated with repeating motifs, that were drawn or painted on.
On the right something that some considered being like a logo for the work he made, but I very much doubt if that is the case. This especially when one reads what it says:
"Desidera farle vedere un lavoro ultimato per un patrizio di Londra" - He wants to show her a finished work for a London patrician.
The reference to a London patrician (Lord Battersea?) seems to be too specific to be a general logo, it may have been used for one specific project only, like the bedroom he designed for the Lord.
Some of the Carlo Bugatti furniture does have a sign though, it is in the shape of a copper medallon which is inscribed with "Marca Depositata Bugatti Carlo".
Below many examples of his work, starting with detail drawings or ornamental motif designs (usually on strangely cut pieces of paper, which may have been used to copy the detail on the furniture itself). The snail may just be a study of a snail.... Idea for the Snail room?
Below a series of drawings, sketches and designs. Some clearly are different variants of a chair for example, others are rather difficult to recognise what it is actually. These are all attributed to Carlo Bugatti though.
